Liverpool have been told their FA Cup third-round tie with Shrewsbury Town on Sunday will be played.

The Daily Mail says all 20 Premier League clubs have been told by the FA that they must play their third-round ties this weekend.

The FA will not apply any experience criteria to young players, meaning that teams will be forced to field youth teams if required.

In the Premier League, a match can be postponed if a club does not have 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper available, either from their first-team squad or ‘appropriately experienced’ u21 players who have previously been involved in a senior matchday squad this season.

Those rules have reportedly been scrapped for the FA Cup, however, with clubs merely required to name 14 registered players on their books.

Though any young player used in the competition this weekend will allegedly be exempt from being considered as ‘appropriately experienced’ by the Premier League.

Liverpool’s training ground has been closed since Tuesday after assistant boss Pep Lijnders, as well as other players and members of staff, returned suspected positive covid tests.
