Super Eagles goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye are in high spirit ahead of the Nations Cup in Cameroon even as the team landed in Garoua in the early hours of Thursday.

The two goalies who were looking radiant will be hoping to post impressive run when called upon in the course of Nigeria’s quest to win the Nations Cup a record four times. Veteran goalkeeper and Kaizer Chiefs safehand Daniel Akpeyi is also in the party so it is safe to say the Eagles goal post is formidable.

Super Eagles hit Garoua set for action

Super Eagles begin their quest with opening game against Pharaohs of Egypt on the 11th of January. Already the match against Egypt has been generating a lot of attention and permutations with some insisting that the winner of this first game will take command of the group and ultimately call the shots. In a total of 19 matches of all categories viz friendly, Nations cup/ world cup qualifiers and All Africa Games respectively dating back to 1960 against Egypt, Nigeria won 6, drew 5 and lost 8. You could thus say Egypt still has a bit of a bragging right. The 11th of January clash will be and is expected to be full of fireworks no more no less and the victor will be happy to sing victory song.

After Egypt, Eagles will then take on Sudan otherwise nicknamed Falcons of Jediane. Talk about battle between Falcons and Eagles. If you have aerial battle it won’t be a surprise as both birds ply their trade in the air.

In 14 meetings involving this two sides Nigeria won 8 drew 4 and lost two. The group stage for the Austin Eguavoen cum Jose Peseiro led Eagles will be clash with Guinea Bissau otherwise called the Djurtus on the 19th.  How will the Eagles fair. Can they emerge from the three matches with maximum nine points? Will they settle for draw against Egypt and end up with seven points after picking a three points against Sudan and Guinea Bissau? I know there are other options but should the “great Eagles” settle for such options? What do you think?
