THE Benue and Ondo state governments have slammed the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, over its comment on the anti-open grazing law.

The National Secretary of the association, Mr Saleh Alhassan, had called on the National Assembly to intervene and stop attempts by some state governors to enact anti-open grazing laws targeted at Fulani pastoralists.

The Benue government specifically said with the manner the leadership of Miyetti Allah was makeing spurious statement and still went free without arrest showed that the body was now running Nigeria.

The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Ngunan Addingi, made this remark while reacting to the outburst by the Secretary General of the socio cultural association, Alhassan Saleh, who derogatory statement against state governors who signed laws prohibiting open grazing of herds in their states.

The commissioner said, “It is now clear to us in Benue State that the leadership of Miyetti Allah is in charge and dictating how this country is now governed.

“We therefore implore relevant agencies to step forward and act swiftly by arresting the leaders of this group as their utterances portend danger to the already fragile security in the country.”

No land for open grazing in Ondo, Akeredolu insists

Also, the Ondo State Government, while reacting to the statement credited Miyetti Allah Kataul Hore, declared that the new anti-open grazing law would be enforced in totality while defaulters would be dealt with according to the law of the state.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, on Wednesday, the government condemned the Miyetti Allah’s statement, saying it showed the group encouraged banditry going on across the country.

He said, “This man (National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Kataul Hore) admits, without qualms, that members of his association have been frustrated to the point of taking to banditry and other forms of criminality to fight poverty.

“No part of our land will be given to foreigners who cling to a dubious regional protocol as an instrument validating dispossession. Ondo State has a law which prohibits open grazing.”
