The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects over the murder of a prince in Orhuwhorun Kingdom, Eric Takerere, and two mobile policemen.

The acting state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, stated this on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said, “Sequel to the murder case under investigation in the command in which a prince in Orhuwhorun, Eric Takerere, and two mobile policemen were murdered and their rifles carted away and also the attempted murder of Eric’s brother, Prince Franklyn Takerere, the command, under the leadership of CP Muhammed Ali, ordered the arrest of the fleeing members of the gang.

“On September 6, 2021, police operatives from the Delta State Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad carried out diligent and painstaking investigation on one Godspower Agabarhayowe, 27, and Tony Edwin, who were arrested two months ago in connection to the murder.

“They led police operatives to their hideouts in Udu, Warri and Aladja areas, where six suspects: Onoriode Shefo, aka Chikago, 36; Omagbeosa Sholla, 30; Godwin Obukoemu, aka Million, 30; Ejime Mugagbam, 34; Ejiroghenen Nushe, 24; and Egho Monday, 28, were arrested.

“They all confessed to be involved in the murder of Prince Eric Takerere and the two mobile policemen.

“They also led operatives to their armoury, where two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, one locally-made pistol, four magazines, 76 rounds of live ammunition, and 38 rounds of live cartridges, were recovered.”

In another development, a suspected armed robber has been shot dead by the police in the Aladja area of the state.

According to the PPRO, the Ovwian Aladja Divisional Police Officer received a distress call that armed robbers were operating in Obogo community.

He said the DPO mobilised a patrol team and vigilantes in the community to the scene.

Edafe said the hoodlums engaged the team in a gun duel, adding that one of the robbers sustained serious gunshot injuries, while two others escaped.

H explained that the injured suspect died while receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

The police spokesman said one locally-made pistol, with one live cartridge, was recovered from him.
